The Strandline

Performance for Lorne Sculpture Biennale 2025

The Strandline explored the intertidal zone of Lorne beach, what it has been and will become. Inspired by research into the ancient geology of the Otway region- what was once a swampy floodplain where dinosaurs roamed along fast flowing rivers.

As the swamps become ranges through tectonic uplifting, and the Gondwana continent broke, we are now standing on the final release point of Australia from Antarctica.

As we continue to drift north and the shore platform imperceptibly retreats, a unique creature of the past emerges from the harsh edges of tidal habitat.

The performance asks you to consider- what is the deep future you can imagine for this place?
